WKU Tennis Ready for Match Against NKU on Saturday

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — WKU Tennis continues its season on Saturday, Feb. 6, with a match at Northern Kentucky. The Lady Toppers and Norse will begin play at 5:30 p.m. CT at Five Seasons Sports Club.

WKU (1-3) has played a difficult schedule so far this season, but head coach Greg Davis is encouraged by how the team has played. Improvement over previous years was evident in the Lady Toppers' 4-2 defeat at Lipscomb, due to the fact that they had lost to the Lady Bisons 4-0 in both 2020 and 2019.

"Overall, the team is competing very well, it's just getting that confidence of getting that one really good win and just going from there with it," Davis said. "We were right there in the match against Lipscomb, had opportunities, just really struggled to make plays to turn that around into a W."

NKU has also been a challenging team for WKU over the past two seasons, as the Lady Toppers saw defeats of 6-1 in both 2020 and 2019. WKU has a 2-3 record all-time against the Norse in a series that dates back to 2007.

"We're not going to be able to go in there and give what I call a 'Swiss cheese performance' where we get great days in some positions but not all six players," Davis said. "But we've been practicing well, so I'm expecting a really high-quality match out of the team."

This will be the Norse's first competition of 2021; they had a dual match record of 6-3 in 2020 before the remainder of the season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. NKU returns all six of their athletes from the previous season, while adding two freshmen.
