DALLAS – After a top-15 performance at the Battle of Black Creek hosted by Chattanooga, WKU freshman Riley Grindstaff earned Conference USA Golfer of the Week, the league announced Wednesday.
"There are few things better than getting to watch players reap the benefits of the hard work they put in," said head coach Chan Metts. "Riley certainly falls in that category. He has had a great first semester of his career and it's great to see him rewarded with his first Golfer of the Week honor. Hopefully this will be another great building block for him moving forward."
In the first and second rounds of the event, the Tennessee native fired WKU's top two scores of the week, shooting 2-under 70 and 3-under 69. He followed that up in the final round, shooting 4-over 76.
Grindstaff finished the event with a total score of 1-under 215, tying for 11th out of 96 players.
This was Grindstaff's second consecutive top-15 finish and third overall on the season. He is the first Hilltopper to log back-to-back top-15 finishes in the regular season since fall 2019.
The freshman is averaging 72.2 strokes through his first 15 rounds of competitive golf, which would tie for fifth all-time at WKU, dating back to the 1994-1995 season.
