BOWLING GREEN, Ky. āĀ Last weekend, WKU Tennis bounced back after a season-opening loss to No. 15 Vanderbilt by beating Bellarmine for the team's first win of 2021. The Lady Toppers look to continue that momentum into Lipscomb, as a matchup awaits against the Lady Bisons on Saturday, Jan. 23. Play at Whitworth RacquetĀ Club in Nashville will begin at 7 p.m. CT.
WKU and Lipscomb have faced off 25 times all-time, with the Lady Toppers holding a slim, 13-12 advantage in dual matches. The Lady Bisons have won two straight, however, with 4-0 victories in both 2020 and 2019.
"Lipscomb has been very tough the last two years we've played them," head coach Greg Davis said. "We have a very difficult schedule, but with the experience and depth that this team has, I think we're going to be very competitive this year."
The Lady Toppers' singles lineup of Cora-Lynn von Dungern, Laura Bernardos, Tristen Bryant-Otake, Samantha Martinez, Lisa Friess and Alexis Cramer was swept by the Commodores, but responded with an undefeated day against the Knights. Meanwhile, the doubles pairs of von Dungern/Friess, Bernardos/Bryant-Otake and Cramer/Lauren Joch all secured victories in Louisville.
This will be WKU's lone match of the weekend, but the team will travel north to Cincinnati (Jan. 29) and Kentucky (Jan. 30) the following Friday and Saturday.
