BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – WKU Baseball dropped its series finale against Purdue, 19-1, Sunday afternoon at Nick Denes Field.
The Hilltoppers clinched a series victory over the Boilermakers after winning the first two games, but move to 10-5 on the season following today's loss, while Purdue improves to 7-7 for the year.
The Boilermakers took control of the game with a nine-run first frame, with the Hilltoppers unable to recover from there.
"I told them it's a learning experience," said head coach
John Pawlowski. "You have to understand how focused and locked in you have to be for every single game. So, we talked about that. This is going to sit in their stomach and it's not going to feel very good to them, but it's a learning curve. We can take this and learn from it and get better."
The Hilltoppers utilized 11 pitchers throughout the course of the contest, with the group combining to allow 20 hits and 19 runs (13 earned).
Freshman left handed pitcher
Lane Diuguid produced one of the strongest outings of the day in his first collegiate appearance, striking out two batters while not surrendering a hit or walk in his 1.2 innings of action.
At the plate, the Hilltoppers produced six hits in the matchup, with five players collecting at least one hit on the day.
Richard Constantine led WKU with the team's lone multi-hit effort of the game, going 2-for-4 while adding a walk.
