BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — WKU Tennis is back in action on Saturday, Feb. 29, with a 7 p.m. match at Lipscomb. The head-to-head against the Bisons was originally scheduled to be at home in Bowling Green, but was moved due to weather concerns.
The Lady Toppers own a 13-11 all-time record against Lipscomb, with the programs facing off at least once in every season since 2001, except for 2014. After WKU won four straight in the series from 2015-18, the Bisons claimed a 4-0 victory last season in 2019.
"Lipscomb's a great team, they really played well against us last year," head coach Greg Davis said. "We've played 12 matches so far and we've got 10 left, so we're hoping that experience will help us down the line."
Leading the way for the Lady Toppers are seniors Lisa Friess, who owns a 7-2 singles record, and Lucia Diaz Saez, who boasts a 6-2 singles mark of her own. Diaz Saez has won five straight decisions, and both have provided consistency at the bottom of the lineup.
"Our seniors Lucia and Lisa are really stepping up right now, they're playing with a lot of confidence and that's rubbing off on their teammates," Davis said. "Both have done a tremendous job on the court and from a leadership standpoint off the court as well."
Meanwhile, two other Lady Toppers, Cora-Lynn von Dungern and Laura Bernardos, each have five singles victories of their own. On the doubles side, Friess and von Dungern at the No. 1 position lead WKU with a 6-3 mark.
