BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — WKU Hilltopper Basketball continues its homestand against Gardner-Webb at 7 p.m. CT Thursday at E.A. Diddle Arena. The game will air online on ESPN+ and locally on WKU PBS.

The Hilltoppers beat Mississippi Valley State 96-69 in their home opener Sunday to snap a two-game slide against ranked competition. This will be the first game of the season for Gardner-Webb after pausing for COVID-19.

This will be the first-ever meeting between the two programs, and it will also be the first time WKU head coach Rick Stansbury has faced the Runnin' Bulldogs.

The Hilltoppers' game will be featured on The Hill at Home presented by Kentucky Fish and Wildlife, a live video feed of Hal Schmitt and Voice of the Hilltoppers Randy Lee on the radio call. • As of Tuesday, WKU's strength of schedule was ranked 35th by Ken Pomeroy, and 45th by Sagarin Ratings. The Hilltoppers' first four opponents as ranked by KenPom: Northern Iowa (86), Memphis (52), West Virginia (7) and Louisville (23).

• As of Tuesday, Charles Bassey leads the nation with 20 total blocks and ranks second with 4.0 blocks per game. He's also third in double-doubles (3) and total rebounds (56), and 11th in rebounds per game (11.2). Only 26 programs in the nation have more blocks as a team than Bassey by himself.
• As a team, WKU ranks eighth nationally in total blocks (25), 15th in free throws made (79) and 28th in free-throw attempts (105).
• In the first five games of the season, WKU has made 79 of 105 free throws (75.2%), while its opponents have made just 56 of 73 from the stripe.

• Depth has been a strength for the Hilltoppers early this season. They have nine players averaging double-digit minutes and are averaging 25.2 bench points per game. Last season, WKU averaged 11.8 bench points per game. Its 50 bench points in Sunday's win over Mississippi Valley State were the program's most since getting 53 points from the reserves against North Texas on Jan. 16, 2016.
