BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — The WKU women's basketball team will host FIU on Saturday at 2 p.m. in E.A. Diddle Arena with a nine-game home winning streak on the line. The Lady Toppers are 7-0 in Diddle this season and are one of only 26 teams left in the nation still perfect at home. Their home winning streak is tied for the 20th longest in the country.
WKU is 13-6 on the season and 5-3 in Conference USA. FIU is 5-15 on the year and 2-7 in conference play. The Lady Toppers come into the game with an RPI ranking of 27, the highest in C-USA.
In the last outing, WKU defeated another Sunshine State member in Florida Atlantic, 68-59. After a close first quarter, the Lady Toppers built a lead in the second and distanced themselves in the third going to the final period ahead by 20. The Owls surged back to get within nine but that was as close as they could get.
Raneem Elgedawy led WKU, securing a double-double in the first 16 minutes and scoring the Lady Toppers' first 13 points in the game. She ended with 28 points and 18 rebounds for her ninth double-double of the season which leads the conference.
Dee Givens scored 20-plus points for the second consecutive game, finishing with 25 points and six rebounds.
The Lady Toppers found success in the post, outscoring the Owls 34-16 in the paint and outrebounding Florida Atlantic 43-27.
Saturday will be the 40th meeting all-time between WKU and FIU. The Lady Toppers lead the series 30-9 and have won six straight against the Panthers. WKU is 17-2 in Bowling Green against FIU.
FIU is led by Jiselle Thomas who is averaging 10.7 points per game. Chelsea Guimaraes leads the Panthers on the boards, pulling down 7.5 rebounds per game. Bre'Osha Scott is FIU's top assist earner, recording 44 on the season.
