BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — For only the seventh time this season, the WKU women's basketball team will play in E.A. Diddle Arena on Thursday. The Lady Toppers will take on Florida Atlantic at 6 p.m.
WKU is 12-6 on the season and 4-3 in Conference USA. Florida Atlantic is 9-10 and 3-5 in league play. The Lady Toppers have won two-straight games with wins against Charlotte and Marshall. The Owls recently defeated Charlotte, 65-44, before falling to Old Dominion, 75-63.
WKU is 6-0 at home this season and have an eight-game home win streak stretching back to last season. That win streak is tied for the 25th longest in the country and the Lady Toppers are one of only 27 teams left in the nation that hasn't lost at home this season.
Thursday's game will be a Green Out for WKU as part of C-USA's efforts to support Mental Health awareness. The efforts are organized by the league's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). Members of the Lady Topper women's basketball team will be wearing green to show support for fellow student-athletes, peers and community members in the pursuit of mental wellness.
WKU is coming off of a 74-65 win at Marshall last Saturday. The Lady Toppers were down six with 6:24 left in the game, but roared back thanks to an 18-1 run late in the game. Overall, WKU outscored Marshall 20-7 in the final six minutes of the game.
Dee Givens paced WKU against Marshall with her first double-double of the season on 24 points and 11 rebounds. Raneem Elgedawy joined her with a double-double on 19 points and 13 boards. Whitney Creech scored 15 in the second half and tied her season high in assists with seven. Meral Abdelgawad was the fourth Lady Topper in double figures with 12 points.
The Lady Toppers took care of the ball down the stretch, recording a season high 15 assists in the game and recorded zero turnovers in the final 17:02.
Thursday will be the 21st meeting between WKU and Florida Atlantic all-time. The Lady Toppers lead the series 18-2 and have won nine-straight against the Owls. WKU is 10-0 against Florida Atlantic in Bowling Green.
Last season, WKU defeated Florida Atlantic 81-50 in Boca Raton. Elgedawy led the Lady Toppers with 25 points, 16 rebounds and five steals. Abdelgawad had 13 against the Owls and Givens added 10 points.
Florida Atlantic is led in scoring by Crystal Primm who is averaging 15.5 points per game this season. Lotta Vehka-Aho is averaging 11.9 points and Juliette Gauthier is putting up 11.4 points per game. Primm also leads the Owls on the boards, crashing for 7.5 rebounds per game.
