The Sun Devils return six starters and nine letterwinners from last year's squad while welcoming nine newcomers to the 2019 scene. WKU is 1-0 all-time against ASU with a five-set win during the 2008 campaign. Arizona State opened the 2019 season with a 3-0 mark, grabbing four-set victories over Houston and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and a five-set win over LSU.
Â
WKU will close Friday's slate with a showdown with No. 24 Louisville from L&N Federal Credit Union Arena. The Cardinals return three starters and seven letterwinners from last year's 22-9 campaign. Louisville finished 14-4 in ACC play to tie for third in the league standings before advancing to the Second Round of the 2018 NCAA Tournament. UofL is off to a 2-1 start on this year's campaign, grabbing wins over Texas A&M and Dayton after dropping the season opener to Florida. WKU trails Louisville 16-0 in the all-time series – dropping a four-set decision most recently in 2017.
Â
Weekend play will conclude with a midday contest against Tennessee Tech on Saturday. TTU is still in search of its first victory of the 2019 campaign after suffering losses to Northern Arizona, Oakland and Michigan over opening weekend. The Golden Eagles return eight players from last year's 11-19 campaign while welcoming eight newcomers. Tennessee Tech went 5-11 in OVC action a year ago, finishing ninth in the regular-season standings.
Â
WKU is off to a 3-0 start for the first time since 2017 when the team opened with a 4-0 mark before dropping a decision. In total, the Lady Topper program has begun a season 3-0 10 times under Hudson.
Â
After securing 20 wins last season, Coach Hudson and the WKU program have now posted 19-consecutive 20-win campaigns. The streak is the fifth-best active mark in the nation.
Â
The 2019 season also marks Hudson's 25th at the helm of WKU Volleyball. Hudson is one of just 31 coaches across Division I Volleyball to be leading a team for at least their 25th season. Even more impressively, the WKU veteran is one of just 11 to coach every season at the same school. His .741 career win-percentage figures out to rank second-best of those 11 longstanding coaches as does his 25.4 wins-per-season average.
Â
With the 2019 campaign underway, volleyball season tickets are available online at WKUSports.com or by calling the WKU ticket office at 1-800-5-BIGRED. Season ticket holders will receive 15 general admission tickets with the Flexible Ticket Package that can be used to attend the home games of his or her choice. This plan allows the flexibility to choose which volleyball games the buyer wants to attend and the number of tickets used for each game.
