BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – WKU will take a shot at a new tournament in its first outing of the 2019-20 season, competing in the Graeme McDowell Invitational hosted by UAB on Monday and Tuesday.

"This is a new event for us, and going into it we don't have any guys who have played this course before," said head coach Chan Metts of the par-72, 7,293-yard Greystone Golf & Country Club – Greystone Founders Course. "That's okay because this is a new host site for UAB as well."

This year, the Hilltoppers will be led by senior Tom Bevington and redshirt senior Linus Lo. Both seniors competed in the lineup for WKU in every event last year.

"We know our potential, we know how good we can be," said Bevington on stepping up to lead the team this season. "I think we just want to make sure we push ourselves to get where we know we can get to this year."

"They definitely had some good mentors from their seniors last year," said Metts of the duo. "They've stepped right in and filled those shoes and done everything I've asked of them."

For the past three years, Bevington and Lo have followed in the footsteps of Billy Tom Sargent and Stuart Easton. In 2019, WKU sent both of those Hilltoppers to the NCAA Regionals; this was the first time in program history multiple individuals qualified in the same year.

The pair recorded some of the best WKU NCAA Regional rounds, as Sargent became the first ever Hilltopper to advance to the NCAA Championships.

WKU is one of 19 teams competing in Birmingham on Monday and Tuesday. The field includes seven teams that finished in the Golf Stat top-100 at the end of the 2018-19 season including No. 17 South Carolina, No. 19 North Florida, No. 35 Arkansas State, No. 77 Memphis, No. 82 UAB and No. 88 ULM. WKU finished at No. 87 last year.

The Hilltoppers competing in the Graeme McDowell Invitational will be Bevington, Lo, redshirt sophomore Dawson McDaniel, freshman Luke Fuller and junior Chase Landrum.
