Tops Push Up Leaderboard in Improved Second Round at Auburn

OPELIKA, Ala. — Every competitor for WKU Hilltopper Golf matched or improved on their first-round score Monday at Auburn's Tiger Invitational, as the Hilltoppers moved up four spots in the team standings heading into the final day.

WKU shot 14 strokes better in the second round at the par-72, 7,289-yard Grand National on the Lake Course, carding a 4-over 292 on Monday.

The Hilltoppers are in 10th with a 598 (306-292) tally, but are just eight strokes out of fifth. No. 10 Auburn leads the field as the host at 573.

WKU junior Tom Bevington stayed steady Monday with his second straight 1-over 73, tying him for 14th at 146. He's tied for second in the field in par-3 scoring and tied for fourth in par-4 scoring.

Bevington is tied with or ahead of six of the nine top-100 golfers in the field.

Redshirt senior Billy Tom Sargent made the biggest charge in the second round, rebounding from Sunday's 77 with a 2-under 70 in the second round. He's tied for 19th at 147 after beginning the day in a tie for 46th.

Senior Stuart Easton also made a big push with an even-par 72 on Monday, a six-shot improvement over his opening-round 78. He's tied for 38th at 150 after starting play tied for 56th.

Redshirt junior Linus Lo has a two-round total of 155 (78-77), while freshman Dominic Brettkelly is at 161 (82-79).

Georgia State's Josh Edgar leads the individual competition with a 138 tally.

WKU is scheduled to tee off in Tuesday's final round at 8 a.m. CT.
