BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — The WKU women's basketball team will host Oklahoma on Wednesday at 6 p.m. for the 37th annual BB&T Classic. Tickets for the game are being offered for $1.
The Lady Toppers are 5-2 on the season after going 1-1 in the Saint Mary's Thanksgiving Classic last week. Oklahoma is 4-3 and is coming off an 88-83 loss against Wichita State.
In Moraga last week, WKU won its first game of the Thanksgiving Classic against Tulsa with a strong second half. Against Saint Mary's, the Lady Topper fell behind early and had a 16-point deficit in the third quarter. WKU would come back to force overtime, but were unable to complete the come-from-behind victory.
After posting two double-doubles in the Classic, Raneem Elgedawy was named the Conference USA Player of the Week. She had 18 points and 10 rebounds against Tulsa and 27 points and 13 boards against Saint Mary's. It was her second time earning the honor in her career and the first this season.
Wednesday's game will be the third meeting between WKU and Oklahoma all-time. The first meeting came in November of 1985 in Bowling Green and the Sooners came away with an 89-81 win. The two teams played again last season, this time in Norman. Oklahoma won that one 90-83. Dee Givens was the leading scorer for WKU with 21 points.
Elgedawy is leading WKU in scoring, averaging 16.3 points per game so far and pulling down an average of 11.0 rebounds per game, the second most in the conference. Elgedawy's five double-doubles are the most in C-USA and the eighth most in the nation.
Whitney Creech is right behind her in scoring, putting up 16.0 points per game in 2019-20. Givens is averaging 14.9 points per game as the third Lady Topper averaging double figures.
For the Sooners, Taylor Robertson leads the way averaging 19.7 points per game. She had 24 against WKU last season. Ana Llanusa is averaging 19.1 points and Madi Williams is scoring 14.0 points per game. Williams had 15 points and 15 rebounds against the Lady Toppers in 2018.
