BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — The WKU women's basketball team stays on the road to take on Mercer on Friday afternoon. Tip off is set for 3:30 p.m. (CST). The game will be broadcast on ESPN3.

The Lady Toppers (0-1, 0-0 C-USA) will be looking to bounce back after a loss at No. 9 Louisville on Tuesday night to open the season. WKU kept in distance to the Cardinals for most of the game, even cutting it to an eight-point game late in the third quarter, but Louisville pulled away in the fourth for a 75-56 win.

Junior Sherry Porter led WKU in scoring with 15 points on the night. Dee Givens added 13 and Whitney Creech had 10. Raneem Elgedawy pulled down a team-high eight rebounds in the contest.

WKU is opening the season with two true road games for the first time since the 1977-78 season when the Lady Toppers traveled to Vanderbilt and Belmont in the first two games.

Mercer (1-0, 0-0 SoCon) and WKU have played only one other time in series history. Previously, they met in the Georgia State Thanksgiving Classic on Nov. 24, 2017. The Lady Toppers escaped with a narrow 67-62 victory. Creech, Elgedawy, Porter and Givens all played in that game. Creech had 10 points and four rebounds, Porter had five assists and Elgedaway had seven points and seven rebounds as a freshman.

Givens moved into a tie for 31st place on WKU's all-time scoring list against Louisville. She's now up to 1,144 career points as a Lady Topper. She also moved up on the career 3-pointers made list to eighth place with 166 total. Â

Mercer started the season with a 74-47 win against LaGrange on Tuesday. Shannon Titus, and PJ Wintermyer led all scorers with 14 points each. Jordan McLaughlin and Amoria Neal-Tysor also added 10 points.
