MORAGA, Calif. — In the second game in as many days of the St. Mary's Thanksgiving Classic, the WKU women's basketball team will face the host team St. Mary's. That game is set for a 4 p.m. (CST) tipoff on Saturday at McKeon Pavilion.
The Lady Toppers are off to a 5-1 start for the first time since the 2012-13 season and have won five-straight games heading into Saturday's matchup with St. Mary's.
St. Mary's is 2-4 on the season with wins against UC Santa Barbara and UC Davis. The Gaels have lost two-straight games, including a 77-63 loss against Marquette in their first game of the tournament.
Whitney Creech leads WKU on the scoring front, averaging 15.3 points per game along with 4.2 assists per game. Dee Givens isn't far behind her, putting up 15.0 points per game. Raneem Elgedawy is averaging 14.5 points per game and has led WKU in scoring the last two games. Sherry Porter is scoring an average of 11.0 points per game.
Elgedawy got her fourth double-double of the season on Friday against Tulsa with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
St. Mary's also has four players averaging double figures in scoring. Emily Codding leads the pack, averaging 15.8 points per game. Sam Simons is behind her, putting up 14.7 per game. Madeline Holland averages 11.2 and Taycee Wedin is averaging 10.1.
The Gaels are a first time opponent for WKU, with both teams the Lady Toppers face in the tournament being new opponents.
