WKU NOTES | CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL | BRACKET
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Three and a half months ago, WKU Volleyball was picked to finish third in the 2019 Conference USA Preseason Coaches Poll, collecting just one first place vote. Since then, the nationally-ranked Lady Topper squad has lost just one match while posting the best regular season in program history with a record of 28-1. Additionally, the Red and White went a perfect 14-0 to earn the program's fifth regular season title since joining Conference USA prior to the 2014 campaign. Up next for No. 19 WKU is the C-USA Tournament hosted by No. 21 Rice in Houston, Texas, from Nov. 22-24.

Â
WKU will open postseason action with a familiar opponent in No. 8 seeded Middle Tennessee. The Lady Toppers and Blue Raiders met twice in the regular season with a home-and-home series. WKU claimed the matchup in Bowling Green in four sets before picking up one of its NCAA-best 20 sweeps on the return trip to Murfreesboro, Tenn. Middle Tennessee is making its first C-USA Tournament appearance since 2013, the last time a tournament was held without WKU involved. MTSU posted a 13-16 overall record across the season including a 6-8 record in league play.
Â
If WKU is able to take down the Blue Raiders for a third time this year, the Lady Toppers would face the winner of fourth-seeded Marshall (18-9; 9-5 C-USA) and fifth-seeded Florida Atlantic (15-10; 9-5 C-USA). The Tops swept the Thundering Herd inside Diddle Arena after visiting Boca Raton, Fla., and snapping FAU's 21-match home win streak – the second-longest streak in the NCAA – with a four-set victory.
Â
With a semifinal win, WKU would be back in the C-USA Tournament Championship match for the fifth time since joining C-USA. The Lady Toppers have met Rice twice (2014 & 2016), UTSA (2015) and North Texas (2017) in the championship match since joining the league.
Â
On the other side of the bracket, second-seeded Rice (24-2; 13-1 C-USA) is set to take on UTEP (13-14; 6-8 C-USA) while No. 3 North Texas (16-10; 10-4 C-USA) will take on No. 6 UTSA (15-12; 8-6 C-USA).
