Lady Toppers Hit the Road to Take On UTEP

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — For the first time since September 1, the WKU soccer team will play a road contest on Thursday evening. The Lady Toppers will square off with UTEP in El Paso at 8 p.m (CT).

WKU will be away from home for the next four matches on a tough stretch of the schedule with contests at UTEP, FIU, North Texas and Rice.

The Lady Toppers (6-4-1, 2-2 C-USA) will be looking to getting back to the win column on Thursday after dropping back-to-back matches last week. WKU had an overtime battle with Charlotte last Thursday, its third-straight extra time match and sixth of the season. The 49ers got the Golden Goal midway through the first overtime period to claim the win. On Sunday, a fatigued Lady Topper team fell to Old Dominion to close out a seven-game homestand.

Ashley Leonard is the leading goal scorer for WKU with six on the season. Ambere Barnett is the top points earner with 15 total (5 goals, 5 assists). Barnett is also the leading shot taker in Conference USA with 55 on the season, the eighth most in a single-season in program history.

Anne-Marie Ulliac has been the starting goalkeeper for WKU all season and owns a 1.05 goals against average.

UTEP (7-3-3, 2-1-1 C-USA) will also be looking to bounce back after a 6-1 loss against Middle Tennessee last week, snapping a four-match unbeaten streak. The Miners have been tough to beat at home this season, winning four-straight matches at University Field.

Lauren Crenshaw is the leading points earner for the Miners with 11 (5 goals, 1 assist) on the year. Emily Parrott has played in every game in-goal for UTEP this season. She has a 1.38 goals against average and .679 save percentage through 13 contests.

In only three meetings between the two teams, the series is tied across the board 1-1-1. The first meeting came in 2014 in Bowling Green and resulted in a 2-1 overtime loss for the Lady Toppers. In 2015, the two teams played to a draw in El Paso. Last season, WKU won a high-scoring affair, 4-3.
