Lady Toppers Road Trip Continues at FIU

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — After a tough 1-0 win at UTEP on Thursday night, WKU soccer will travel nearly 2,000 miles away for another away match at FIU on Sunday. Sunday's match is part of a four-match road swing in the Lady Toppers' schedule. Start time is set for noon (CT).

WKU (7-4-1, 3-2 C-USA) earned a hard-fought 1-0 win on Thursday at UTEP to earn three more points in the conference standings. After Friday night's Conference USA action, the Lady Toppers are in a two-way tie for fifth place in the league.

The Lady Toppers clinched win No. 199 in program history on Thursday and will be looking to make it to 200 on Sunday. As the only head coach in WKU soccer history, it would also serve as Jason Neidell's 200th head coaching win.

Ansley Cate scored the game-winner for the Lady Toppers on Thursday. It was her fourth goal of the season and her second game-winner. WKU has three players who have earned double-digit points this season. Ambere Barnett has 15 with five goals and five assists. Ashley Leonard has 12 points on six goals and Cate has 10 with four goals and two assists.

Thursday's shutout victory against UTEP was the sixth of the season for WKU and the fifth clean sheet in 2019 for goalkeeper Anne-Marie Ulliac. Both of those marks are second in the conference.

FIU (2-10, 0-5 C-USA) comes into the match on a five-match losing streak. The Panthers are led in goals by Rayquel Berry with four this season. FIU has played four different goalkeepers this year, but Christina Velazquez has played in 11 matches. She has a 2.72 goals against average in 2019.

WKU holds a 7-3-3 advantage in the series history. The Lady Toppers have won four-straight in the series, including last season's 4-0 win in Bowling Green. Ashley Leonard had a hat trick in the win, only the sixth hat trick in program history.
