WKU MATCH NOTES
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Two of the hottest teams in Conference USA are set for a Sunday showdown as WKU Volleyball will host Rice as both teams enter the contest with five-match win streaks in tow. The Lady Toppers (12-5; 3-0) and Owls (11-4; 2-0) are two of the three C-USA squads yet to lose a league matchup. WKU and Rice were picked first and second, respectively, in the C-USA Preseason Coaches Poll back in August.
Â
WKU Volleyball will welcome former players back to The Hill for its annual alumni match. Alumni ranging from members of the program's first NCAA Division I squad to last season's NCAA Tournament Second Round unit will be in attendance.

LOOKING AT THE OWLS:
Halfway through one of its toughest weeks of conference play this season, WKU Volleyball has turned its focus to Rice. The Owls were picked to finish second in the Conference USA Preseason Coaches Poll, receiving two first-place votes. Rice will enter Sunday's showdown with an 11-4 record overall and a 2-0 mark in league play.
Â
Rice returns 9-of13 letterwinners from its 21-9 2017 campaign in addition to a majority of its starters.
Â
The Owls are winless in true road tests this season with a 0-3 reading, dropping contests at Texas Tech, No. 15 Baylor and Stephen F. Austin. In C-USA action, Genny Volpe's squad swept UTEP and picked up a four-set victory over UTSA Friday night.
Â
In the all-time series against the Owls, WKU leads 5-2. The sides met just once during the 2017 season with the Lady Toppers sweeping the Owls in Houston, Texas, in early November. WKU would have faced the Owls in the 2017 C-USA Tournament Semifinals had the squad not been upset by sixth-seeded Southern Miss.
Â
NEXT UP:
Following Sunday's showdown with Rice, WKU Volleyball will hit the road for a pair of contests. First up, the Lady Toppers will visit Huntington, W.Va., to take on the Thundering Herd in a 10 a.m. CT, tilt on Friday, Oct. 5. The road swing will wrap up down in Murfreesboro, Tenn., on Sunday with a second go-around with the Blue Raiders.
