BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Lady Topper Tennis will travel up I-65 this weekend to compete in the Purdue Invitational at the Schwartz Tennis Center in West Lafayette, Ind. Teams playing at the Invite include Ball State, Xavier, Miami-Ohio, Lipscomb, Wright State and Northern Illinois.
Teaming up for doubles, sophomore Laura Bernardos and junior Lisa Friess will take on a tandem from Ball State in the first round. Bernardos and Friess will be competing in the Black Doubles bracket throughout the weekend. Following their match against Ball State, the duo will play teams from either Wright State or Miami-Ohio.
Spain-native Bernardos will be leading the Lady Toppers in the Black Singles bracket, playing against a member of the host Purdue squad in the first round. Boilermaker sophomore Ena Babic was ranked No. 1 nationally in Croatia before coming to Purdue.
Friess, the eldest Lady Topper traveling to West Lafayette, will be competing in the Hammer Down bracket. Hailing from Austria, Friess will play her first round of singles against Natalie Moyer of Xavier.
Freshman Judit Gonzalez Agud will look to continue her inaugural collegiate season, competing in the Boiler Up bracket. Her first-round opponent is a representative from Northern Illinois.
Play will begin Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 8 a.m. CT. On Friday, the Lady Toppers will play two rounds of doubles matches and one round of singles.
WKU is coming off a two week break after an opening weekend at the Greater Cincinnati Invite. The Lady Toppers collected eight wins across the doubles and singles tournaments.
