IRVING, Texas — After tying for the second-best 54-hole score in program history, WKU Lady Topper Golf sophomore Mary Joiner was named Conference USA Co-Women's Golfer of the Week by the league office Wednesday.
This is Joiner and the Lady Toppers' first weekly honor of the season, but it's the third of Joiner's career. She won the award twice as a freshman following a pair of tournament victories.
The Franklin, Ky., native finished third this week in a field with multiple top-100 individuals at North Florida's UNF Collegiate, carding a 4-under 212 (69-73-70) total at the par-72, 5,926-yard Jacksonville Golf and Country Club and tying her own career low previously reached in September at the USA Intercollegiate.
The 212 tally was just one stroke off Ellinor Haag's program record of 211 set in 2014. Joiner now owns three of the top four 54-hole scores in Lady Topper history.
She went a combined 9 under on par-5s throughout the tournament, including 7 under over the first two rounds. This is the fourth top-three performance of her career.
Joiner set a new career low for 36 holes at 142 through two rounds, and her opening-round 69 tied her season low. Across the tournament, she had 36 pars, 10 birdies and an eagle.
The Lady Toppers stay in Florida next week as they host the Spring Break Shootout in Tampa, Fla.
