KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. — WKU Lady Topper Golf improved by two strokes Monday and maintained fourth place out of 42 teams with one round to go at the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Spring Classic.
The Lady Toppers shot a 3-over 291 as a team Monday at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort for a two-day total of 584. They're just five strokes back of third-place Jacksonville and six shots back of second-place Murray State. Host College of Charleston leads the field at 567.
The top 22 teams in the tournament – the largest college event in the country – will play for the championship at Osprey Point during Tuesday's final round, while teams 23-43 will play for a flight championship at Oak Point. The final round will be a 7:45 a.m. CT shotgun start.
WKU senior Georgina Blackman is tied for 18th individually through two rounds with a total of 144 (71-73) – her lowest 36-hole tally of the season.
Sophomore Mary Joiner led the Lady Toppers on Day 2 with a 2-under 70, tying her for 29th at 146 (76-70). She played bogey-free golf Monday with two birdies.
Senior Katie Story and sophomore Bailey Tyree are both tied for 38th at 147 (73-74) each. Freshman Megan Clarke has a two-round total of 152 (76-76).
The Lady Toppers continued to find success with consistency Monday, now tied for the lead on par-4s at 9-over and tied for fifth in total pars at 118. Joiner leads the tournament with 30 pars.
