PREVIEW
WKU Volleyball has its eyes set on its fourth-straight automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament by way of the Conference USA ticket. For the past two seasons, the Lady Toppers have knocked off the C-USA Championship host in the final match, taking down UTSA in 2015 and Rice last season. WKU and Rice also met in the 2014 Championship, hosted by Southern Miss.
Â
After splitting the regular-season conference championship with North Texas after a loss to the Mean Green in Denton, Texas, the Red and White own the No. 2 seed in the weekend's postseason event. WKU will have a chance to avenge the regular-season finale loss if the top two seeds both advance to Sunday's championship. The Lady Toppers also owned the No. 2 seed during the 2014 event.
Â
Facing off against all 12 other Conference USA foes in the regular season, North Texas was the only team to take down Travis Hudson's squad. WKU owned regular-season sweeps over everyone in the eight-team bracket aside from the Mean Green, Florida Atlantic (3-2) and Marshall (3-1).
Â
The Lady Toppers have claimed victories in their last 20 matches from E.A. Diddle Arena dating back to last season's non-conference loss to Michigan State. In conference play, WKU has never lost to a Conference USA opponent on The Hill. The Red and White have won their last 52 meetings with conference foes dating back to their 2011 Sun Belt Conference days.
Â
Last time WKU Volleyball hosted a postseason tournament was at the conclusion of the 2012 campaign when Hudson's squad hosted the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. The Lady Toppers swept their way to the title, taking down FIU, Arkansas State and North Texas, in order, all by 3-0 decisions. WKU also hosted conference tournaments during the 2009, 2003, 1985 and 1983 campaigns for six total hosting duties.
Â
With the 2016 C-USA Volleyball Championship crown, WKU became the first team in the league to ever three-peat as post-season victors and will have the opportunity to push the streak to four this time around. A win at this year's event would tie WKU with Louisville for the most total postseason championships when in C-USA with four.
