CHAMPIONSHIPS CENTRAL
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – With the regular season slate in the books, WKU Cross Country is headed for Clinton, Miss., to compete at the 2017 Conference USA Cross Country Championships hosted by Southern Miss on Saturday. Action from the Choctaw Trails Course is slated for a 9 a.m. CT, gun for the men's 8K while the women's 5K is scheduled for 10 a.m. CT.

After staying in either Kentucky or Tennessee for all four regular season races, the Hilltoppers will now hit the road for their furthest travel yet.

Choctaw Trails has been the host of two NCAA DII national cross country championships (1986, 1988). There have also been several NCAA region meets as well as NCAA conference meets held at the Trails in the past. Choctaw Trails is host to the Watson Cross Country Invitational, one of the largest meets in the South, with nearly 30 colleges and over 100 high schools participating each year. The Trails are also the permanent host to the Mississippi high school state cross country championships for public schools, as well as private schools. There are over 30 meets annually hosted by Choctaw Trails, which make it the premier cross country course in the South.Â

Upon conclusion of the men's and women's championships, three all-conference teams for both men and women. Finishers 1-7 are first team, 8-14 are second team, and 15-21 are third team. In addition, a men and women's individual champion will be award to the first-place finishers, a men and women's outstanding senior for the highest-finishing seniors, and a men's and women's freshman of the meet for the top newcomers.

At last year's Charlotte-hosted C-USA Championships, WKU saw the Lady Toppers bring home a 10th-place finish led by Lindsey Hinken. The WKU men secured a ninth-place finish with Endalow Takele and Julien Cuyeu leading the way.

Competitors returning for another C-USA Championships appearance include Takele, Cuyeu, Taylor Scarbrough, Bryce Swindell, Savannah Ames and Briana Wolken.
