The contest will pick back up with runners on first and second and two outs in the sixth, and FAU leading 4-1. The remainder of the fixture will be streamed live on the Conference USA Digital Network, and fans can listen to every game this season locally in Bowling Green on 1450 AM and 102.7 FM or online at WKUSports.tv.
The Owls secured a 10-2 triumph in the first game of the day before weather caused the second fixture to be suspended. WKU recorded its 24th double-digit hitting game of the year in the first contest with 10, but the Tops could not come back from the blistering start to the game by Florida Atlantic.
In the opener, Danny Hudzina continued his fine season by going 2-for-3 and reaching base three times on two hits and a walk, while also launching his fourth homer of the year in the first inning. He pushed his season hit total to 89 with a double in Game 2, which is tied for the 10th most in a single season in program history and most since former All-American Matt Rice tallied 89 in 2010. He will look to become the first WKU player to finish a season with a .400 batting average since 1997 as he sits at .408 on the year.
Following Hudzina's homer to open the first game, the nationally-ranked Owls scored 10 unanswered over the first, second and third innings before Cody Coll produced a masterful performance in relief. Coll shutout FAU in the final five innings of play and only gave up one run in six innings of relief, while striking out three. It was the longest relief outing of his career as he only allowed two hits over the last five Florida Atlantic at-bats.
The Hilltoppers plated the final run of the contest in the top of the fifth on a Kaleb Duckworth RBI. After back-to-back singles by Leiff Clarkson and Steven DiPuglia to leadoff the inning, Duckworth's groundout was enough to bring home Clarkson for his team-high 36 run driven in on the year. DiPuglia was WKU's best hitter on Friday, going 3-for-4 in the first game to push his weekend tally to four.
Starting on the mound in the second game of the day, senior Josh Bartley continued his great closure to his Hilltopper career as he held the Owls to just three earned runs before play was suspended. In his last three starts, the Tops have only produced four total runs behind him offensively. He also struck out four during the start.
Harrison Scanlon came up with the big hit to score the Hilltopper run with an RBI single in the fourth. Following a leadoff single by Duckworth, Scanlon came through on two outs with a single through the right side of the infield to plate Duckworth. For Scanlon, he now has a hit in 14 of his last 16 games and has recorded 12 RBI and 10 runs during that span.
