BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- The WKU women's tennis team defeated Arkansas State 6-1 on Wednesday afternoon at the WKU Tennis Complex. The Lady Toppers improve to 7-4 this season while the Red Wolves drop to 0-11.
With the win, WKU has now matched last season's win total with matches against Evansville, Lindsey Wilson and Middle Tennessee still remaining in the season.
The Lady Toppers took the doubles point to start the match with wins at all three spots. Andreanna Christopoulou and Cynthia Melita Setyawan improved to 6-0 this season with a 6-0, 6-3 win at the No. 1 spot. Tereza Hejlova and Elpida Malamou made quick work at No. 2 with a 6-1 win. Gabby Crofford and Violetta Shatalova teamed up at No. 3 to get a 7-5 win.
In singles, Christopoulou moved to 5-0 at the No. 1 spot this season with a 6-0, 6-3 win. Hejlova earned a 6-2, 6-3 win at the second spot. Melita Setyawan improved to 7-1 this season with a deciding 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3. Malamou served a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 4 and continued her winning streak to nine matches. Shatalova won 6-1, 6-3 at the No. 5 for her seventh singles win of the year.
The Lady Toppers finish a busy week with two more matches on Friday and Saturday. WKU will travel to take on Evansville on Friday at 1:00 PM and then return home for Senior Day on Saturday against Lindsey Wilson.
