EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- The WKU women's tennis team picked up its third-straight win against Evansville on Friday afternoon at Wesselman Park in Evansville, Ind. The Lady Toppers improve to 8-4 on the season, posting the most wins since 2013.
Andreanna Christopoulou and Cynthia Melita Setyawan won their seventh match of the season together, getting a 6-1 win at the No. 1 spot. Tereza Hejlova and Violetta Shatalova teamed up for only the third time this season at the No. 2. The duo dropped the match, 6-2. Evansville forfeited at the No. 3 due to a lack of players, giving WKU the doubles point. WKU is 8-0 this season when winning the doubles point.
The Lady Toppers won across the board in singles with wins at the top-five spots and an Evansville forfeit at No. 6. Christopoulou improved to 10-2 this season with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 1. She is now 6-0 at the top spot in 2016. Hejlova earned a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2 to move to 7-4 on the year. Melita Setyawan had a tight first set at No. 3, but eventually came out with a 7-5, 6-1 win. She is now 8-1 this season. Elpida Malamou won convincingly at the No. 4 spot, improving her winning streak to 10 matches and record to 11-1 this year. Cassie Pennington picked up her first singles win this season with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at the No. 5.
WKU will be back in action on Saturday at the WKU Tennis Complex against Lindsey Wilson at 2:00 PM. Seniors Gabby Crofford and Melita Setyawan will be honored during a Senior Day ceremony before the match.
