BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - WKU volleyball closed out the 2015 Holiday Inn University Plaza Invitational with its second consecutive sweep as the Lady Toppers defeated Furman (4-4) in straight sets Saturday afternoon in E.A. Diddle Arena.
Senior Noelle Langenkamp and outside hitter Alyssa Cavanaugh led the way as the Lady Tops captured all three sets by the same 25-15 score.
Langenkamp tallied a match-high 12 kills on a .522 hitting clip and Cavanaugh added 10 for the Lady Toppers who finished with a .330 team hitting percentage on the afternoon.
WKU's defense stifled the Paladins throughout the contest, as Furman hit .012 as a team. Junior Georgia O'Connell led the way with a 12-dig effort while the Lady Tops notch four team blocks.
WKU's Jessica Lucas led the team with 27 assists to go along with eight digs and a pair of kills. With Northwestern's five set victory over Missouri State later in the day, WKU captures its second invitational championship on the year after posting a 2-1 overall record on the weekend.
Three Lady Toppers earned all-invitational honors led by O'Connell who was named MVP after recording 60 digs over the three-game stretch. The junior defensive specialist tallied a career-high 27 digs against Missouri State Friday afternoon. Langenkamp and Lucas were also named to the team.
WKU (8-2) returns to action on Tuesday as the Lady Toppers travel down to Nashville for a 6 p.m. CT. match with Belmont in BU's Curb Event Center.
