NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- WKU volleyball notched its third consecutive straight-set victory Tuesday evening as the Lady Toppers tallied a season-high eight service aces in order to sweep Belmont (25-11, 25-20, 26-24) in BU's Curb Event Center.
The Lady Toppers proved dominant in the first set as WKU finished with a .350 team hitting clip, led by a perfect 5-for-5 effort by senior Noelle Langenkamp, on its way to an easy, 25-11 victory.
Six of WKU's eight aces came in the opening stanza as sophomore setter Jessica Lucas and junior Kaelin Grimes each recorded a pair for the Lady Toppers. Lucas finished the opening set with an impressive overall stat line of five assists, four digs and two blocks to go along with her two aces.
Sophomore Alyssa Cavanaugh got going offensively in the second set as the outside hitter finished 4-of-5 on the stanza. The Lady Tops used .432 hitting as a team in order to capture the set, 25-20, as WKU went into the intermission with a 2-0 lead on the match.
The third set proved to be a tight contest throughout as the host Bruins seemed determined to extend the match into a fourth set.
A kill by Belmont's Arianna Person knotted the set at 24 before a BU service error and a kill by freshman Taylor Dellinger helped WKU capture the set, 26-24, and the match, 3-0.
Cavanaugh and Dellinger powered the Lady Toppers throughout the final stanza, finishing with eight and five kills respectively.
Three Lady Tops finished the match with a double-digit kill count, led by Cavanaugh's 13-kill performance off a .308 hitting clip. Langenkamp finished with 11 off a match-high .526 attack percentage while Dellinger finished with a career-high 10 on .450 hitting.
Lucas tallied her fifth double-double on the year, finishing with 35 assists and 13 digs while Georgia O'Connell added a match-high 18 digs for the Lady Toppers.
Person paced Belmont's offense, finishing with a match-high 15 kills.
WKU (9-2) returns to action this weekend as the Lady Toppers are set to compete in the 2015 Huskie Invitational on the campus of Northern Illinois University. The Lady Tops begin action Friday with a match against Northern Iowa set for 11 a.m. CT.
