BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- A pair of former WKU Track & Field athletes produced good showings at the prestigious 2015 IAAF World Championships in Beijing, China, this past weekend.
Former WKU cross-country standout Michelle Finn competed in the women's 3000 meter steeple chase event for her native Ireland.
Finn finished in ninth place in the first heat with a time of 9:55.27. She compiled a personal best time of 9:43 in an earlier competition which qualified her for both the World Championships and the 2016 Summer Olympics.
Former Hilltopper Track & Field athlete Julius Morris represented his native Montserrat and competed alongside current world-record holder Usain Bolt in the 200-meter preliminaries. Morris finished in fifth place with a time of 20.51 as Bolt went on to capture the event with at time of 20.28.
"I am extremely happy for both Michelle and Julius," said WKU track and field coach Erik Jenkins. "Both earned a chance to compete against the best in the world. I look forward to their continued success."
Former WKU athlete Gavin Smellie is scheduled to compete in the 4x100 preliminaries for Canada on Saturday evening. Complete information on the championships can be found at IAAF.org.
