BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- The WKU men's and women's track and field teams will host the Hilltopper Relays, their lone home meet of the year, Friday and Saturday at the Charles. M. Ruter Track and Field Complex.
The Hilltopper Relays begin Friday at 3 p.m. (CT) with the men's and women's hammer throw and continue Saturday morning at 9 a.m. with field events. Running events will kick off at 11 a.m. with the 5,000-meter run and the meet will conclude around 5 p.m. A complete schedule is attached.
WKU will host its largest field of competitors in the seven-year history of the meet as a combined 21 teams from 12 institutions will visit Bowling Green. Division I teams competing against WKU will be SIUE, Mississippi Valley State, Tennessee-Martin, Austin Peay, Murray State and C-USA rival Marshall. Grand Valley State, Kentucky Wesleyan, Notre Dame (Ohio), Indiana Tech, Lindsey Wilson and Bethel (Tenn.) round out the field.
"We're very excited to bring in high-caliber competition from around the region for this year's Hilltopper Relays," said head coach Erik Jenkins. "The event continues to grow and the quality of athletes competing forms a great atmosphere for a track and field meet."
The Hilltoppers entered the 2015 outdoor season ranked No. 25 in the USTFCCCA preseason poll and feature four First Team All-Americans from last year's squad that finished 18th at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Junior javelin thrower Tomas Guerra, a two-time All-American, ranks sixth nationally in the event and will try to improve his mark Saturday at 2 p.m.
For the fourth-straight year as a part of the Hilltopper Relays, WKU has partnered with Bowling Green Independent, Warren County and local private schools for the "Fastest Kid in Bowling Green" competition. Students grades 1st-8th have been racing in their local school the past few weeks and the winners of those races will face off in a 100-meter dash competition Saturday at the conclusion of the collegiate 100-meter dash.
Parking will available for free in both Parking Structure 1 and Parking Structure 2 next to E.A. Diddle Arena while $5 parking is an option at The Registry Apartments parking garage.
