BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - On the cusp of securing a second straight NCAA Tournament bid and second consecutive conference tournament title, WKU faces Southern Miss in the championship game of the 2015 Conference USA Championships in Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Ala., on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. CT in a nationally televised contest on CBS Sports Network.
Saturday's championship game against Southern Miss can be seen on CBS Sports Network with Ed Cohen (play-by-play) and Julianne Viani (analyst) on the call. The game can be heard on SAM 100.7 FM in Bowling Green with Barry Williams (play-by-play) on the call.
The Lady Toppers continue to grind out postseason wins, having beaten Charlotte by three and Old Dominion by two to open the C-USA Championships. It continues a trend that saw WKU win three conference tournament games by a combined 11 points last year in the Sun Belt Conference Championships that were won by the Lady Toppers.
WKU has reached the championship game of a conference tournament for the second straight year with the 2015 appearance in a conference tournament title game marking WKU's 21st all-time finals appearance, but first in Conference USA. WKU is 10-10 all-time in conference tournament title games, but haven't won back-to-back appearances since winning six straight between 1986 and 1993.
WKU (29-4, 16-2) and Southern Miss will meet for the second time this season. The Golden Eagles handed WKU one of their two conference losses this season on Jan. 31, 2015 in a 63-61 decision. After WKU took a 58-57 lead on a basket from redshirt sophomore Kendall Noble with 2:28 left, the Lady Eagles responded with baskets by Tamara Jones and Jerontay Clemons to go up 61-58. Brooke Rhodes and Alex Coyne added free throws in the final minute to secure the win. WKU shot just 3-of-12 from the free throw line and just 6-of-23 from behind the three-point arc in the loss.
