MOBILE, Ala. - Through all three rounds, the WKU men's golf team climbed the team leaderboard, improving one spot each round as they tallied a 12th place finish on Tuesday at the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate, hosted by South Alabama.
WKU fired a 49-over 913 (318-294-301) as a team while Cameron Beal's nine-over 225 (79-74-72) led the Hilltoppers and put him in a tie for 31st overall.
Trey Aguirre tied for 47th on the merit of his 13-over 229 (80-72-77) and Brandon Beckham finished in 55th with a 16-over 232 (81-75-76). Andy Gladden shot 18-over 234 (79-73-82) to tie for 62nd and Taylor Thompson finished alone at 68 with a 22-over 238 (80-82-76).
Auburn's Matt Gilchrest and Texas State's Tyler Saunders tied for the individual medalist honors, both shooting a five-under 211. As a team, Auburn also took home the championship with a three-under 861.
Gladden led the Hilltoppers in par three scoring, averaging 3.17 strokes per hole while Beckham's 4.58 stroke average on par fives tied for the best mark in the event.
In the separately hosted USA Individual Tournament, Connor Griffiths placed 12th overall with an 18-over 231 (80-75-76). Griffiths was the top C-USA individual in that event.
The Hilltoppers return to action on March 9 when they travel back to Alabama for the Samford Intercollegiate in Birmingham.
