LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- WKU cross country made improvements on Saturday against top competition at the Greater Louisville Classic as Katie Lever and Aaron Stevens led the way for both teams, with Stevens finishing in the Top 20.

Stevens continued his great start for the Hilltoppers this season as he posted a career-best time of 25:14.4 in the 8,000-meter race to finish 16th, which is the second Top 20 placement of the season for Stevens. Lever was the first Lady Topper to finish for the eighth straight meet as she registered a time of 18:00.51 to secure 85th in the 5K event.
"Greater Louisville provided very good competition," said head coach Erik Jenkins. "We will continue to work hard to improve over the next two weeks in key areas."
Lindsey Hinken and Taylor Carlin were followed Lever for the second straight race as the two ended the race with marks of 18:02.63 and 18:07.90, respectively. Freshman Aleja Grant set her best time since coming to The Hill at 18:55.46, while Baylee Shofner (19:03.95) rounded out the scoring for the Lady Toppers as the team placed 22nd.
For the men's team, Julien Cuyeu knocked off 47 seconds off his 8K time from last meet as he recorded a mark of 27:12.64, while Sam Porter (27:50.89) was a whole minute faster than previous race. Mark Stice (29:41.27) and Kyle Wilson (31:28.92) were the other Hilltoppers to score as WKU finished 33rd.
WKU runners will return to Louisville, Kentucky, on Saturday, Oct. 17, to compete in the 2015 NCAA Division I Pre-Nationals Invitational.
