BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Senior third baseman Danny Hudzina powered Team Black to a 4-2 win on Monday night with three RBI to tie up the Fall World Series at 1-1 after the opening two games.
Along with the three runs batted in, Hudzina added a double as black bounced back from the Game 1 loss with 13 hits in the second game. Team Black's starter Cody Coll tossed four scoreless innings and only gave up two hits before handing the ball to Sam Higgs and Ryan Thurston to conserve the win.
Black grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the opening frame after Leiff Clarkson, who went 2-4 with a run and a stolen base, smacked a leadoff triple before Hudzina brought him home. The two continued to do damage in the bottom of the fourth inning as a Hudzina double to center scored Clarkson and Hunter Wood to push the black lead to 3-0.
Team Black would tack on its final run in the fifth when Marquis Webb slapped a single back up the middle to score Wood to increase its advantage to 4-0. Wood also had a very productive day at the plate, going 3 for 4 with a double, two runs scored and drawing a walk.
The red team would not go down lightly as it plated a pair in the sixth inning on a Thomas Peter homer to left to start the inning and a Cole Womack triple that scored Brandon Pollock from first. That would be all the runs Team Red could muster on the night as Thurston was perfect in the final two innings to record the save. Kevin Elder (4.0 IP, 6 H, 3 R) started the game for red, while Evan Acosta (2.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R) and Jake Griffin (2.0 IP, 4 H, 0 R) both pitched in relief.
Thursday's Game 3 is set to start at 3:30 p.m. CT from Nick Denes Field, with the game's starting pitchers to be announced later in the week. All of the Fall World Series games are free to the public.
