WKU Tennis Earns First Win Defeating Belmont 5-2

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — The WKU women's tennis team secured their first victory of the season against Belmont in Nashville, Tenn. on Friday by a score of 5-2. This is also the first win under first-year head coach Jonatan Berhane.

"I thought we did a very good job against Belmont," commented Berhane. "I was very impressed with our doubles play and we won a lot of returns and first serves."

The Lady Toppers started the day with two wins at the No. 2 and 3 doubles. Tereza Hejlova and Elpida Malamou topped Laura Van Eeckhoudt and Abbie Mather 6-2 and Gabby Crofford and Emily Przystawski defeated Suzanna Stapler and Ann Lauren Fiepke 6-2. Emilia Granstrom and Andreanna Christopoulou were leading 5-1 against Lindsey Whitehead and Kendall Warren when the match was called.

WKU also secured wins at the No. 1 through 4 in singles. It was the first career singles wins in a dual match for Emilia Granstrom, Tereza Hejlova, and Elpida Malamou. While Andreanna Christopoulou moved to 2-0 on the season in singles play. Gabby Crofford had another tough match that needed three sets to decide the outcome. After losing the first set 6-7, Crofford came back to tie up the score with a 6-4 win in the second set. Crofford was unable to win the tiebreaker losing 7-10. Emily Przystawski also dropped her match 6-2, 6-3.

The Lady Toppers (1-1) will return to action against Austin Peay (0-3) on Saturday in Clarksville, Tenn.
