MADISON, Miss. -- Two Hilltoppers finished in the top 15 as the WKU Men's Golf team jumped five spots between rounds to pick up their highest finish of the spring, a fifth place showing at the Ole Miss-hosted Reunion Intercollegiate on Tuesday.
The first round, which was split due to rain and picked up by all 15 teams on Tuesday morning, saw the Tops finish in 10th place, but strong, consistent golf over the final 18 holes of the event moved WKU up the leaderboard to finish with a 601 (300-301) team score.
Additionally, WKU finished as the top team from the Sun Belt Conference in the event, besting Louisiana-Lafayette by six strokes and Troy by eight.
Conor Griffiths and Taylor Thompson tied for 15th place overall at five-over 149, with Griffiths shooting 71-78 while Thompson shot 75-74 at the par 72 Reunion Country Club.
Keith Tooley, Jr., gave WKU a third finisher in the top 25 as he shot a seven-over 151 to finish tied for 25th. Trey Aguirre went one more, going eight-over 152 to tie for 29th while Cameron Beal shot a 16-over 160 to tie for 59th place.
Mississippi State took home top team honors with a 588 team score while Central Arkansas' Pep Angles was the individual medalist, shooting the only sub-par 36 hole score of the field, a three-under 141.
Next up for the Hilltoppers is the Sun Belt Championship, set for April 21-23 in Gulfport, Miss., at the Grand Bear Golf Course.
