KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. -- Participating in the country's largest collegiate tournament, the WKU women's golf team closed out the first of three rounds at No. 27 at the Kiawah Island Classic, hosted by the College of Charleston.
On the Cougar Point course, a challenging par-72, 6,001 yard course, the Tops shot a 40-over 328 team score, led by sophomore Ellinor Haag's eight-over 80 round. The 192-player field was crowded at the top with as many as 34 players shooting a 74 or better on the day to clog up the leaderboard.
In second for the WKU women, Michaela Bordeianu shot a nine-over 81 to finish in a tie for 112nd while Daniela Galassi's 11-over 83 has her sitting at No. 129 overall.
The fourth and fifth finishers for WKU were April Butler, who shot a 12-over 84, and McKenzie Smith who carded a 13-over 85. Butler and Smith finished in ties for 139 and 145 respectively.
Troy leads the 36-team field with a three-over 291 team score and also had one of the individual leaders in Taylor McGraw, who shot a three-under 69 on Sunday. McGraw was one of just six golfers to shoot under par. She is tied for the lead with St. John's Anna Kim and Kent State's Wad Phaewchimplee.
The 36-hole event continues tomorrow at 8:55 a.m. ET with the first Hilltopper hitting the course at 9:18 a.m.
