HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- A day after carding a 314 team score to sit in seventh place, the WKU Lady Topper golf team scratched a 331 on the final round of the Lady Eagle Invitational, hosted by Southern Miss, to finish in a tie for ninth place on Tuesday.
Held at the par 72, 6,111 Hattiesburg Country Club, just one of the five Lady Toppers was able to improve on her opening round score while the other four all scratched at least six strokes higher on the day, leading to the lower team finish. As a team, WKU shot 645 (314-331) for the event.
Ellinor Haag and Daniela Galassi both carded a five-over 77 on Monday, but Haag went 11-over 83 while Galassi went 13-over 85 to finish in 34th and 42nd place, respectively. Haag tied with April Butler, the lone Lady Topper to improve her score on Tuesday. Haag went 77-83 to hit 160 while Butler went 82-78 to match.
Finishing in fourth for WKU was Michaela Bordeianu who shot a 163 (78-85) for the event to finish in a tie for 48th place. McKenzie Smith was the final finisher for WKU, carding a 174 (83-91) two-day score to finish in a tie for 68th place.
Southern Miss and individual champion Brandi Rodriguez defended their titles on their home course. The Lady Eagles won the event with a 608 while Rodriguez was an even-par 144 for the event.
Next up for the Lady Toppers is a trip to Ocala, Fla., for the Ocala Spring Invitational, hosted by Morehead State beginning March 23.
