FORT MYERS, Fla.—A 4 p.m. travel curfew ended the Western Kentucky University softball team's (3-1-1) final game of the FGCU/Four Points by Sheraton Invitational in a 1-1 tie after six innings with Florida Gulf Coast (5-0-1) on Sunday.
WKU was down 1-0 for six frames after FGCU scored in the first inning. Jessica Barnes came home from second base after a RBI single from Chelsea Zgrabik.
In WKU's half of the sixth inning, senior Kelsie Mattox opened the inning reaching first on an Eagle error. Freshman Amber Williams came in as a pinch runner, moving to third off of a senior Amanda Thomas single and sophomore Jacqueline McGill sacrifice bunt. Freshman Andie Martin then hit a single up the middle to tie the game before the contest was called.
The Lady Toppers totaled five hits in the game, as senior Olivia Watkins and juniors Preslie Cruce and Shawna Sadler had one each to go with Thomas and Martin.
Senior Emily Rousseau (2-1) pitched the six innings, giving up four hits and one walk while striking out four batters. FGCU's Amanda Josie walked one and struck out six throughout her six innings of work.
WKU heads to the opposite coast next weekend, as the Lady Toppers play in five games in UCLA's Stacy Winsberg Memorial Tournament. WKU faces Robert Morris, UC Davis and UCLA during its time in California.
