Bowling Green, Ky. (E.A. Diddle Arena)
WKU HEAD COACH Ray Harper
On winning the last two games at home:
"These were two tough games this week, and we were able to grind it out and find a way to win both games."
On paying attention to scouting reports:
"The thing we did was we allowed the ball in the post way too easy. They threw it in there anytime they wanted. We were just too slow on rotations on numerous occasions."
On O'Karo Akamune:
"I thought he was the difference once again. He is just a step quicker than guys right now. If we can get some more guys playing the ways he's playing, we'll be okay."
On Ben Lawson:
"I thought he was okay. He stepped up and made two free throws. He just has to be aggressive. He got the one foul where the kid drove the basketball. That's one where I think in time, that kid is not getting the shot off. He is seven-foot, and he jumps out of the gym. That is one he has to block and not get a foul."
On moving forward:
"We talked about how we are at the halfway point in the league. We are 7-2 in the conference, 15-7 overall and we have nine games left. We need to get ready for next Saturday in Little Rock in a big one."
TEXAS STATE HEAD COACH DANNY KASPAR
On the game:
"It was a hard-fought ball game. We had our chances to win, but we let it get away from us. WKU is a good basketball team; a well-coached team. Certainly their crowd and the atmosphere helped them here tonight. That game could have gone either way. I am very happy with the defense our team played tonight, but not very happy with the result."
REDSHIRT-SENIOR GUARD Caden Dickerson
On taking care of business on the two- game homestand:
"It was big to get our momentum and keep the streak going. We finished with two good teams. Texas State is a great team, and it was a good win."
On playing at Arkansas State:
"They got us at home, so it will be a big game for us. They got one up on us, so we are looking to get them back. It will be a big game for us to keep it going on the road."
On if the team is hitting their stride now or if there are still areas to improve:
"There are a lot of areas we can work on: defense, keeping intensity the whole game, starting off the halves with the same intensity. Working on the offensive flow, it can always get better, as well."
JUNIOR FORWARD George Fant
On his dunk with the foul late in the second half:
"That's something he said he was going to do. He came down the lane and I knew he was going to drop it off, and he did. I knew I had to go finish."
On if the team thought this game would be a mismatch:
"It's college basketball. You win some, you lose some. Just because on paper it doesn't look too good, they're always going to come out and play their hardest. They want to go out there and get some wins and make their record look better. They're not going to come out here and lay down every game. They're going to play as hard as possible. They know that there's still a chance of getting to the tournament. Like you guys know, anything is possible in the tournament. Of course, every team in our conference is going to come out and play hard. We came out and played hard today and got the best results out of it."
On how big O'Karo Akamune's performance has been:
"Since I've been here, O'Karo has always been a high energy guy. He's a senior now, so you know he's going to step up. He has a lot to prove. Obviously, he has been sticking around and every year he's gotten better and better. This is a finished product. He's ready to step it up some more and keep building on what's he doing."
