BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - As fall practices wind down for WKU Baseball the bats that made the Hilltoppers one of the best offenses in the country in 2014 are beginning to heat up at Nick Denes Field.
The pitching staff full of new faces held the upper hand in the early parts of fall practice but as the annual Fall World Series nears the deep crop of Hilltopper hitters have started to find their groove at the plate.
WKU hit .291 as a team in 2014 and ranked 14th nationally with 119 doubles. The offense finished the 2014 season ranked 28th in slugging percentage (.411), 37th in batting average (.291) and 49th in hits (574) despite playing just 57 games.
2014 All-Sun Belt Conference selections Anderson Miller and Ryan Church return for the Hilltoppers as do eight of WKU's Top 11 hitters from last season. As a sophomore, Miller led WKU with a .335 batting average, .879 OPS, 40 runs scored four triples and four outfield assists.
Church comes back for his senior year after leading the Tops with 38 RBI, 21 multi-hit performances, seven homers, 102 total bases and a .371 batting average with runners in scoring position.
The Hilltoppers will have one more week of practices before capping fall sessions with the Fall World Series at Nick Denes Field Oct. 16-18. First pitch times will be released later next week and each game will be open to the public free of charge.
