WKU senior All-American candidate Alexis Govan sat down with her teammates, the 2014-15 WKU Lady Topper Basketball squad, and members of the men's basketball team to discuss life off the court, life on the court and everything in between in a series of question and answer sessions.
Govan, who is interning with the WKU Athletic Media Relations/Communications department this semester, is returning to the court in 2014-15 after missing much of last season with a fractured tibia. As a sophomore, Govan was one of the most prolific scorers in the nation and will enter the 2014-15 season as the second leading active scorer in Conference USA behind teammate Chastity Gooch.
Today, Govan sits down with new graduate assistant Erin Keith:
You haven't been on the Hill long but you're familiar with WKU. How would you describe Hilltopper nation?
EK: Welcoming.
What is your most embarrassing basketball moment?
EK: I got crossed really bad in high school at the top of the key, I tripped over my feet and everything.
What do you like to do away from basketball?
EK: I like to either sleep or watch movies.
If you could pick your all-time Starting Five composed of WNBA/NBA players who would they be?
EK: Chris Paul, Maya Moore, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James and Tim Duncan. (or Blake Griffin)
When you played what kind of player would you say you were?
EK: I was smart, more than I was athletic. I wasn't the best on the court basketball wise, but I was mentally.
What one thing have you learned from basketball that you can use in your off the court life?
EK: Just to keep going. You're going to make a mistake or something's going to go wrong you just have to keep pushing, if you don't it will all just continue to pile up.
Do you have a favorite quote, if so what is it?
EK: Probably one of my favorite ones that my dad used to say was "use your head for something besides a hat rack."
What is your earliest basketball memory?
EK: The little church leagues we all grew up playing in. When I played we had a little square that we had to stand in to play defense.
What advice would you give to young athletes?
EK: Stay hungry, humble, and never think you're too good.
Finish this sentence: Lady Topper Basketball is_______.
EK: a savior (my career).
