GULF SHORES, Ala. - Junior Michaela Bordeianu tied for fourth place and WKU women's golf placed three golfers inside the top 15 to earn a fourth place finish on Tuesday at the UAB Fall Beach Bash.
It is the third top five finish of the fall campaign in the team's final event of the year. The Lady Toppers begin their spring championship season on February 23 at the USA Women's Invitational in Mobile, Ala.
"It was a very competitive Tuesday, and we were very consistent throughout," said first year head coach Adam Gary. "We were right there in the hunt for the championship, but unfortunately didn't come away with it. However, I am pleased with our play from top to bottom. We didn't shoot a single round over 80 the entire event, and that's a testament to how this team prepares to play every round."
It is the second time this fall WKU has finished a tournament without a round of 80 or higher, which they also did at the Great Smokies Intercollegiate in September.
Bordeianu shot a two-over 146 (73-73) to finish just three strokes out of the individual medal, won by West Florida's Paloma Vaccarro (143, 71-72).
Junior Ellinor Haag finished tied for ninth with a three-over 147 (73-74) and freshman Georgina Blackman finished inside the top 15, tying for 14th place with a four-over 148 (73-75).
Senior April Butler improved her on her second round, firing three fewer strokes, to finish tied for 36th place with an 11-over 155 (79-76). Sophomore Daniela Galassi matched Butler for the event, also shooting 155 (76-79).
Houston Baptist University shot 74 or better as a team, firing a 288 on the day, to win the event with a 584 (296-288). Fellow Conference USA members Southern Miss and UAB tied for seventh place with a 607, 14 strokes behind the Lady Toppers.
