WAYNESVILLE, N.C. -- WKU women's golfer Ellinor Haag finished on the podium in consecutive events on Tuesday as she earned a second place finish at the Great Smokies Intercollegiate, hosted by Western Carolina.
As a five-person squad, the Hilltoppers finished the event, held at the par-72, 5,932-yard Waynesville Inn, Golf Resort and Spa, in eighth place with a 599 (298-301) card.
Haag finished in third at last week's Drake Creek Invitational and was named to the All-Tournament team. The sophomore from Sweden tallied nine birdies and finished five under par on par five holes. Her four-under 140 was just a stroke off that of tournament champion Taylor Allison of host WCU.
"Overall, this was a fantastic event for our team," said coach Ron Burchett. "We've improved from event to event and the competition has only gotten stronger. The hard work of the team throughout the summer is really paying dividends for us right now."
Just eight total strokes separated second from 22nd in the event, where Michaela Bordeianu finished with a 148 (72-76). April Butler's 158 (82-76) was good for 49th overall while freshman Daniela Galassi carded a three stroke improvement on the day and finished in 52nd with a 159 (81-78).
McKenzie Smith rounded out the team scoring with a 161 (76-85), finishing in 58th overall, while Mallory Vaughn, competing as an individual, carded a 162 (79-83) to finish in 61st.
The Tops will return to the course on Oct. 7 when they travel to the west coast for the UC-Riverside hosted "Birdies for Breast Cancer" event.
