NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Juniors David Mokone and Jodi Miller paced the WKU men's and women's cross country teams Saturday at Percy Warner Park, recording top finishes for the Hilltoppers and Lady Toppers at the Commodore Classic hosted by Vanderbilt.
Mokone notched his eighth-career top-10 finish in a cross country meet, posting a time of 25:21.82 in the 8,000-meter race to nab sixth-place honors. Mokone also notched a fifth-place finish at the Belmont Opener at Percy Warner Park on Aug. 30.
His efforts led the Hilltoppers Saturday, who finished 14th among 19 teams in the field. Lipscomb took home the team honors in men's competition.
Miller, a 13-time All-American at Iowa Central Community College, led the Lady Toppers in her first-career meet in a WKU uniform. She tallied a 34th-place finish in the 5,000-meter race, clocking in at 18:10.80.
She was one of five Lady Topper runners to break 19 minutes in the race, sparking WKU in its seventh-place finish in the 20-team field. Sophomore Louise Hill-Stirling was the second Lady Topper finisher at 39th place with a time of 18:16.28.
Vanderbilt led the women's field with four top-10 finishes and won with a team score of 38 points.
The WKU men's and women's cross country teams return to action on Oct. 5 when they head to Tom Sawyer Park in Louisville, Ky. to compete in the Greater Louisville Classic.
