LEDBETTER, Ky. --Ellinor Haag was named to the All-Tournament team for her part in leading the WKU women's golf team to a second place finish on Tuesday at the Drake Creek Invitational.
Haag turned in an eight-over 224 (71-78-75) over the three round event and finished in third place overall, pacing a squad which placed three individuals in the top 10 overall.
April Butler's 227 three round score (74-77-76) was nine-over on the par 72, 6,178 yard course and put her in the No. 8 overall spot while Michaela Bordeianu tallied one more stroke, a 228 (74-80-74), to finish in ninth. Daniela Galassi's 239 (80-84-75) was good for No. 27 overall with McKenzie Smith wrapping up the team scoring in No. 51 with a 257 (94-81-82).
"We had a great first round and that really paced us for the entire event," said head coach Ron Burchett. "Ellinor shot really well early on and the team rallied around each other today to earn this result. Every player improved their score from round two to round three, and that's what it takes to be successful."
Overall, the Tops turned in a 915 team score to finish 28 strokes behind tournament victor and host Murray State (887). WKU edged out Belmont who turned in a 922 while Austin Peay (946) and Tennessee Tech (950) and Marshall (950) rounded out the top five.
Murray's Delaney Howson led all three rounds and finished five-under 211 while Marshall's Korakot Simsiriwong added the only other under-par score of the event, 215 total.
WKU hits the links again on Sept. 16 when they travel to Waynesville, N.C., for the Great Smokies Intercollegiate hosted by Western Carolina.
