2013 WKU FOOTBALL SPRING PRACTICE 13
WEDNESDAY, APRIL 17, 2013
HOUCHENS INDUSTRIES-L.T. SMITH STADIUM
JEFF BROHM, MITCHELL HENRY, TYLER HIGBEE
WKU offensive coordinator Jeff Brohm
(on the tight ends in the WKU offense)
“I think the tight ends play a crucial role in this offense in the running game and the passing game as well. They have to be versatile. We like the group that we have. I think they all have ability. They have been working extremely hard. Those are guys that are really going to have to be leaders of this team and carry the team. Right now we have four guys that are really competing and battling hard, and we are going to need all four of them.”
(on the tight ends being used a lot in the past)
“That is good. Some of them have some experience, and some other tight ends are young. We think all four of them possess some really good qualities, but obviously they are going to have to continue to work and get tougher and become more physical and become more consistent. But right now those guys need to be the leaders of our team.”
(on the offense heading into the Spring Game)
“To this point we have gotten some really good work in, and we have gotten better and have improved. Today wasn’t one of our better days without question. It was very sloppy, but those are things that are going to happen. We have to regroup and know how important each practice is. We have one more left before the Spring Game and we have to take advantage of it and improve every single day. This is a new offense and a new system, so guys have to continue to learn each and every practice and every day.”
(on expecting a good crowd for the Spring Game on Saturday at 2:00)
“We hope so. I think this fan base is a great fan base and I think they are looking forward to having a good year. We are going to do our part and work extremely hard to make sure that we are ready to go and take advantage of every opportunity and every practice that we have to get better and hopefully put a good product on the field.”
WKU tight end Mitchell Henry
(on what he is looking for on Saturday in the Spring Game)
“Just a good effort on both sides and put on a show for the fans. All positions, everyone just doing their job at all times and just executing and see this offense come together because it is brand new to everybody. It would be nice in the Spring Game to see the stuff that we have been working on just happen.”
(on being a deep tight end unit)
“We have four guys that are really doing a good job. All of us are going to contribute in this offense and it is going to be fun.”
(on the role of the tight ends in the new offense)
“It is the same type of role [from last year]. You are still blocking and running routes. Last year Jack [Doyle] caught a lot of passes. He was used in the passing game quite a bit. Tight ends are probably going to spread the field this year a little bit more and have more down the field plays this year.”
(on looking forward to putting on a show in front of the fans on Saturday)
“We’re looking forward to it. We can’t wait to get out there. All of these weeks, we can’t wait to get out there and show what we have.”
WKU tight end Tyler Higbee
(on his transition from wide receiver to tight end)
“It wasn’t too hard. I was a receiver and caught passes, and it’s little harder getting in the run game. I’m transitioning pretty well and I think it’s going well, especially with Coach Petrino since he throws the ball a little bit more. It helps me out in the transition.”
(on the tight ends adjusting to the new offense)
“I think they’re adjusting well. They are picking it up. We are four deep. We have guys that you can move around, as we have a guy playing some fullback. They are transitioning really well and picking it up pretty fast.”
(on the team being ready for Saturday’s Spring Game)
“We have been practicing for five weeks and everyone is ready to get out and put on a show for the fans.
