BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - With the opportunity to build off one of the nation's best turnarounds, WKU (20-9, 13-7) and first-year head coach Michelle Clark-Heard open play in the Sun Belt Conference Championships on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. on Convention Center Court in Hot Springs, Ark. against North Texas or Louisiana-Lafayette. The Lady Toppers enter the conference tournament with an opening round bye and the three seed in the event.
Making its 31st all-time appearance in the event, WKU is seeking its 10th Sun Belt Conference Tournament Championship in program history this week. The Lady Toppers own the most wins in SBC Tournament history (54), more than double the next highest team on the all-time wins list in the tournament. WKU has won at least one game in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament in 28 of its 31 appearances in the event, including three consecutive years.
The Lady Toppers own one of the biggest single-season win improvements in the history of the Sun Belt Conference. WKU is one of five teams in league history to win 11 games more than they had in the previous season and one of two teams to win eight more conference games than the year before. WKU's 13 wins in Sun Belt Conference play were the most for the Lady Toppers since going 14-4 in 2009-10. WKU also became the first team in Sun Belt Conference history to win 20 games in the season following a year in which the team won less than 10 games.
