BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- Former WKU men's basketball standout Jeremy Evans will defend his NBA Slam Dunk Contest title Saturday night in Houston after winning the competition one year ago. Television coverage on TNT begins at 7:00 PM (CT) Saturday, and the dunk contest will air at approximately 7:30 PM.
Evans is one of six slam-dunkers scheduled to compete in the event as part of NBA All-Star Weekend in Houston.
The 2013 Sprite Slam Dunk Contest will consist of the three Eastern Conference players competing against the three from the Western Conference, which includes Evans, in a two-round competition. The highest scoring East competitor and the highest scoring West competitor from the Team Round will compete head-to-head to determine the champion.
Fan voting will open at the beginning of the Championship Round, and the player with the highest percentage of combined votes from all platforms will be champion.
Evans won the 2012 Sprite Slam Dunk contest, defeating Houston's Chase Budinger and Indiana's Paul George in a tight race that included over 4 million fan votes to decide the champion.
Evans finished his WKU career in 2009-10 as the school's all-time leader in blocked shots (224). He is also a member of WKU's illustrious 1,000-point club with 1,065 career points, and he wrapped up his career with a 7.9 point-per game scoring average and an average of 5.9 rebounds per game. Evans' senior season of 2009-10 saw him average 10.0 points and 6.9 rebounds per game, both career-bests.
