WKU OPENS CONFERENCE PLAY AT SOUTH ALABAMA
- The 2013-14 season marks the 30th time WKU will play a regular season Sun Belt Conference schedule. WKU is 22-7 all-time in league openers, including four consecutive wins. Last season, WKU opened conference play with a 5-0 record. It marked the first time since the 2007-08 season that WKU had won five straight games to start league play. That team went on to win its first 11 league games on its way to a 16-2 conference record and the East Division championship.
- WKU owns an all-time record of 161-43 (.789) against the teams that make up the current alignment of the Sun Belt Conference.
- WKU is playing on Jan. 1 for the third time in program history but looking for its first ever win on the first day of the new calendar year. WKU last played on Jan. 1 during the 1992-93 season, suffering a 60-59 setback to Missouri State in Bowling Green, Ky. WKU also lost 76-65 to Miami (Fla.) on Jan. 1, 1981.
- The 2013 calendar year treated Lady Topper Basketball well as the team posted a 19-12 record during the calendar year, including its first postseason win since 2006-07 and a win over BCS-foe Georgetown in the Puerto Rico Classic after being down 16 points in the second half. In comparison, WKU was 17-13 during the 2012 calendar year and 14-19 in 2011.
- WKU has allowed just 49.7 points per game (149 total points) over the last three games. It is the best three-game stretch for WKU since allowing 137 total points vs. Morehead State, Kent State and SEMO last season.
- A win against South Alabama would give WKU a four-game win streak, its longest winning streak of the season. It would be the second straight season that WKU has had a four-game or better winning streak. The last time WKU had consecutive seasons with at least one four-game winning streak was 2006-07 and 2007-08. WKU had at least one four-game winning streak in each season from 1980-81 through 2007-08.
